United States: Oklahoma meat processor BrucePac is recalling almost 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry because it might have germs called Listeria.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that this meat was made between mid-June and October 8 of this year. It was sent to restaurants and other places all over the country.

As reported by HealthDay, “FSIS is concerned that some product may be available for use in restaurants, institutions and other,” the agency said.

All of the recalled meats carry establishment numbers 51205 or P-51205 in or below the USDA mark of inspection on the labels.

Details on product labeling and the list of products that have been ‘recalled’ are still being prepared and will be released on the website once prepared, FSIS responded.

According to an FSIS report the problem came to light because FSIS routinely test finished product and the finished product containing [ready to eat] poultry products produced by BrucePac tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. ‘Further investigations by FSIS confirmed that BrucePac RTE chicken was the source’,

As of yet, no patients have been reported to have gotten ill after consuming any of the products under recall.

The new recall which actually comes on the heels of other Boar’s Head deli meat recalls this year, including one as recently as May of liverwurst that was found to have listeria.

Through September 26, 10 people died and 59 others were hospitalized across the United States due to the tainted Boar’s Head products.

Listeria species are bacteria that can lead to listeriosis, which is the third most fatal food borne illness in the United States. Common signs are high temperature or fever irritation or muscle pain and tiredness. Infection may also the main cause a headache a stiff neck and confusion or seizures. Putting to bring forth may result from pregnancy loss or premature birth especially in pregnant women.

Listeria is especially and mainly its more dangerous for the pregnant women, people older than 64,  and the people  with weakened or can say not stable immune systems,’ the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states in a news release. ”The CDC always advises those most at risk for listeriosis not to consume meats that are sliced at the deli or heat them to a temperature of 165°F or until steaming hot.”
